Discovering Taiwanese Culture One Bite at a Time at Bixby High School

Area high school students had the chance to explore Taiwanese culture up close during Bixby High School’s two-week enrichment class, Foods around the World. Tulsa–Kaohsiung Sister City Partnership co-chair Rex Burnett visited a group of 25 freshmen to share Taiwanese traditions, stories, and tastes.

As part of the presentation, Burnett demonstrated a tai chi routine that included the movement known as the Golden Rooster, giving students a glimpse into cultural practices tied to balance, mindfulness, and heritage.

Stacie Vernier, the lead teacher on this pilot class, hopes to continue developing it into an ongoing project that will engage multiple groups of students in global learning.

This collaboration highlights the value of cultural exchange within everyday classroom settings and reflects TGA’s commitment to expanding global awareness across Tulsa.
