The Tulsa–Zelenograd Sister City Partnership strives to be more than travel or language. It is about building mutual understanding through real relationships. Whether it is a student exchange, a shared marathon moment, or a museum tour with international visitors, each connection helps Tulsa stay globally engaged and locally enriched. In a world that can feel divided, these personal ties matter more than ever.

“Solaris” was originally released in 1972 from legendary Soviet filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes that year, and touches on themes of humanity and consciousness through the lens of space exploration, science, and technology. Zelenograd is a Moscow district of about 180,000 people, known for its universities, research labs, and high-tech industries. Nicknamed the “green city,” it blends innovation with a preserved natural environment. The Zelenograd logo features a squirrel, a beloved symbol of the city’s many forests and green spaces. The microchip in its paws represents Zelenograd’s identity as a major center for electronics and innovation. Together, the imagery highlights the balance of nature and high-tech industry that defines this “green city.” Learn more at https://tulsaglobalalliance.org/zelenograd.

About the film: 2h47min – Sci-Fi, Epic, Drama – Rated PG – Russian with subtitles

Ground control has been receiving mysterious transmissions from the three remaining residents of the Solaris space station. When cosmonaut and psychologist Kris Kelvin is dispatched to investigate, he experiences the same strange phenomena that afflict the Solaris crew, sending him on a voyage into the darkest recesses of his consciousness. With Solaris, the legendary Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky created a brilliantly original science-fiction epic that challenges our conceptions about love, truth, and humanity itself.
