A port in the province of Guangxi in southern China, Beihai has a population of 1.46 million people. Beihai is famous for its white sandy beaches, pearls, and shell art. The province of Guangxi includes 17 non-Chinese minorities. It also includes breathtaking tourist attractions near the city of Guilin, including the Li River and many beautiful mountain peaks. More than 3.8 million tourists visit the area annually.

The Beihai Partnership was represented by Alpha Edens and a local calligraphy artist at the season-opening event of Global Gatherings on May 10. The Gathering attracted approximately 300-500 people.
chinese mid-autumn festival celebration at Broken Arrow High School
The Tulsa-Beihai Sister City Partnership recently sponsored traditional Chinese dance performances at University of Tulsa and Broken Arrow High School in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhongqiu Jie (中秋节) in Chinese, also called the Mooncake Festival or Moon Festival, the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year, In 2023, the festival fell on September 29th. In China, Mid-Autumn Festival is a reunion time for families. Chinese people celebrate it by gathering for dinners, worshiping the moon, lighting paper lanterns, eating moon cakes, etc. It is also celebrated in Singapore, and Malaysia and by the Asian American community.

On May 5, 2023, the Tulsa-Beihai Sister City Partnership was featured at the Global Gatherings event at The Gathering Place, celebrating the vibrancy of the Tulsa community, highlighting vrious cultures and regions of the world.
MARKET NIGHT CELEBRATION
A special celebration called Night Market was held on May 19, 2023 at Nam Hai Oriental Market in honor or Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS
In January and February, the Partnership participated in several Lunar New Year celebrations. Partnership volunteers and dancers participated in celebrations at the Myriad Gardens Foundation, Tulsa Chinese School, the Broken Arrow Asian Club at Broken Arrow High School, the Asian World Experience at the OU Learning Center, and Zarrow International School.
TULSA-BEIHAI PARTNERSHIP CHAIR WINS AWARD
The U.S. Heartland China Association recognizes Dr. Xinying (Alpha) Edens, Beihai Sister City as a winner of the U.S. Heartland Chinese Teacher Award. The Award recognizes the hard work of Chinese language teachers in the Heartland region who have built cultural bridges through language learning.
BEIHAI PARTNERSHIP CHAIR INTERVIEW ON NPR
Dr. Alpha Edens participated in an interview on NPR show Focus: Black Oklahoma to introduce how different organizations like TGA work together to build multi-cultural communities in Oklahoma.

On Sept. 8th and 9th, Tulsa-Beihai Sister City Partnership and Beihai Overseas Affairs Office conveyed our best wishes to some local Chinese communities on the Mid-autumn Festival.

The Deputy Mayor of Beihai sent a Happy Lunar New Year message via social media.
The Beihai Library Director, several librarians, and the Beihai Minister of Culture visited Tulsa in September 2018.
The Partnership participated in these events: the Asian World Experience – promoting our Asian Sister Cities and also developing a t-shirt for give-aways and brand awareness; the Mid-Autumn Festival held at OU-Tulsa with the Confucius Institute, and the Asian American Festival each June.
