Dedication of Fifth Sister Cities Sign Honoring Cathy Izzo

On November 27, 2023, a large gathering of friends, family members and City of Tulsa officials came together to dedicate the Sister Cities directional sign outside City Hall, located at the corner of 2nd Street and Cincinnati. This installation holds special meaning within the Sister Cities program because it is dedicated to the memory of Cathy Izzo, Tulsa Global Alliance’s longtime Sister Cities Program Coordinator and Office Manager.

For many years, Cathy championed the idea of placing Sister Cities signs throughout Tulsa. She believed that these markers would serve as everyday reminders of the global friendships that define Tulsa’s international story. Her enthusiasm and persistence helped launch the directional sign initiative, and she was deeply proud of each installation. Dedicating the City Hall sign in her honor reflects the lasting impact she made on the Sister Cities community and the relationships she nurtured over her decades of service.

The ceremony included heartfelt remarks from Mayor G. T. Bynum, City Council Chair Krista Patrick and members of the Izzo family, each sharing reflections on Cathy’s contributions and her dedication to citizen diplomacy. An official proclamation was presented to the family recognizing her years of loyal service to enriching Tulsa’s global connections.

The City Hall Sister Cities sign now stands at the center of Tulsa civic life as a tribute to Cathy’s legacy. It represents not only the global partnerships she worked to strengthen, but also the care, passion and commitment she brought to Tulsa Global Alliance.
