Tulsa Showcases Industry, Innovation, and Hospitality to Young German Leaders
Tulsa Global Alliance (TGA) was honored to host ten rising professional leaders from Germany August 19-22 through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP),. The program aimed to introduce them to the impact of America’s heartland on the United States, and TGA arranged a schedule of activities that showcased Oklahoma’s industry and manufacturing, introduced them to leaders at the city and federal level, and highlighted the role of energy and aviation in security and economic growth.
During their visit to Tulsa, the young German leaders met with Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols and Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes, Retired Oklahoma Air National Guard Brigadier General Brent Wright, and with representatives of Congressman Kevin Hern’s office, ONEOK, the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, and the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. The group also toured the American Airlines Maintenance Base, which many of the Germans considered a highlight of their visit.
General Wright said of the visit “What made this conversation particularly worthwhile was the engagement from the German delegation. They asked thoughtful, substantive questions and were genuinely interested in how national security, economic development, community relationships, and international partnerships intersect at the local level – the National Guard.”
TGA organized a tour of the Museum of Tulsa History, and a Toast the Travelers reception at Marshall Brewing Company, where the group met with a number of German-speaking Tulsans. The group also enjoyed home hospitality with Tulsa families on Friday evening, and went line dancing afterward.
TGA is proud of Tulsa’s volunteers and leaders in business, government, nonprofits, and the military for representing the heartland of the United States so well, and for building valuable connections with these young German leaders.
