Celebrating Lunar New Year with Beihai and Kaohsiung
In January and February, the Tulsa–Beihai and Tulsa–Kaohsiung Sister City Partnerships participated in Lunar New Year celebrations across the Tulsa region. Volunteers and dancers from both partnerships joined events hosted by the Myriad Gardens Foundation, Tulsa Chinese School, the Broken Arrow Asian Club at Broken Arrow High School, the Asian World Experience at the OU Learning Center, and Zarrow International School.
Across these gatherings, the partnerships helped share the traditions of Lunar New Year through cultural displays, performances, and interactive activities. Families and students enjoyed learning about Chinese, Taiwanese, and broader East Asian customs that shape the holiday, while volunteers offered demonstrations and answered questions about Tulsa’s Sister City relationships in the region.
These celebrations provided meaningful outreach and strengthened Tulsa’s connections with Beihai and Kaohsiung. Both Sister City Partnerships were honored to be part of the community’s Lunar New Year festivities and look forward to continuing this cultural exchange in the year ahead.
