Tulsa Gifts Bison to Tiberias

The Tulsa Tiberias Sister City Partnership marked a significant milestone in 2022 by presenting a life-sized bison sculpture to the city of Tiberias. Created by Tulsa artist Garden Deva, the artwork serves as a symbolic gift honoring both the 2,000th anniversary of Tiberias and the enduring friendship shared between the two cities.

The bison, an iconic symbol of Oklahoma, was chosen to represent Tulsa’s heritage and spirit. Its installation in Tiberias reflects a mutual commitment to cultural exchange, artistic collaboration, and the strengthening of long-standing ties that began with the Sister City relationship formed in 1990.

The dedication ceremony took place on March 16, 2022, with local leaders and students in attendance. A group of Carver Middle School students, who were visiting Israel as part of their ongoing school exchange with Amal Nofarim School, participated in the ceremony and met with Tiberias Mayor Boaz Yosef and Tiberias Partnership representative Itzik Levin. Their involvement highlighted the educational connections at the heart of the Sister City partnership and added a meaningful student presence to the celebration.

This gift stands as a vibrant, permanent reminder of the partnership between Tulsa and Tiberias and the continuing efforts to build meaningful connections across cultures.
